Geoff Achison

Blues from Down Under

Hailing from rural Victoria, Australia, Geoff Achison has forged an international career for himself playing his Souldiggin brand of R&B music. Geoff Achison first appeared on the Melbourne scene in the early 1990s as the young hotshot guitarist with veteran bluesman Dutch Tilders. Geoff Achison toured extensively around Australia with the Tilders band before forming his own band in 1994. In 1995 Geoff Achison travelled to the USA to represent Melbourne performing at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Geoff Achison won the coveted Albert King Award (the first non-American to do so) and went on to score an endorsement deal with Gibson Guitars USA. Geoff Achison returns regularly to America playing bars, clubs and music festivals. His Gettin Evil CD was recorded in Oregon with his US based Souldiggers band. In 1997 Geoff Achison moved to London hoping to establish a UK following. The live recording Souldiggin' In The UK was released in 2000 featuring a British version of the band. Through travelling and touring, Geoff Achison has built his reputation on his live performances transporting his audiences from the gentlest of ballads to the most electrifying rave-ups and back again. Geoff Achison has also enjoyed collaborating with Rock, Jazz and Classical musicians employing some of these for his 2002 Chasing My Tail album. Here the horns and strings compliment the Oz band on a clutch of new songs. Geoff Achison counts Australia, the UK and USA among his touring bases playing solo acoustic shows or hiring the best musicians available to form The Souldiggers as he goes. In 2000 Geoff Achison did a US national tour with the legendary Hot Tuna which introduced Geoff to many new fans. He has been invited 6 years in a row to Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio where he instructs students on his distinctive electric and acoustic styles. In 2002 Geoff Achison was honoured as an official Patron of the Frankston International Guitar Festival. The latest CD is Each Long Day, recorded in England. It features Geoff Achison's original take on a selection of R&B staples closing with a stunning orchestrated title track.
